Tinsley Mortimer, High Society’s main gal is getting a ton of attention lately—and I’m sure she’s lovin’ it.

We need a new term. “Reality TV” is far from accurate anymore. Certain shows may still fit the description, but CW’s new show basically amounts to bad acting by non-actors.



That’s all thanks to an uber-scripted take on real life. If you haven’t seen the promos, you haven’t been near a television in the last week. The show follows a well-known socialite named Tinsley Mortimer. High Society chronicles her life as a NY lush, attending high-profile events and consorting with the wealthy elite.

The show premiered last night after America’s Next Top Model, but only managed to keep the attention of 41% of the viewers. The other 59% probably ran to the kitchen to jab their eyeballs out with a peeler. My peeler is rather dull, so I reached for a serving fork.

Truth be told, the show has the train wreck allure that Jersey Shore has, but I can’t get past the CW’s obsession with the upper crust of society—it’s oppressive!

Hopefully things will get better with next week’s episode, but we’ll have to wait and see.

So who is “Tinz” anyway? Well, she is a socialite who was once married into the wealthy Mortimer family, but much like LuAnn of New York Housewives fame, she kept her ex-husband’s prestigious last name. NY Magazine describes her as a “Virginia-born debutante turned New York fashion and society fixture,” while the AP calls her one of New York’s most photographed women. She also has a line of hand-bags that is super popular in Japan, where she is apparently a major star as well.

I have a feeling that America will get to know her very well in the coming weeks.

I’m giving it another chance next Wednesday night—will you?
